The belief that people who have supernatural powers use them to harm innocents dates back to the 14th century. This belief was fueled by fear and mass hysteria, it led to the witch hunt which lasted until the 18th century and resulted in thousands of so called ‘witches’ being executed by hanging or burning.
Even in our modern era, stories of witches are still terrifying. As more scientific evidence emerges, the scary part is that most people who were accused of witchcraft were innocent.
